Governor, Attorney General, state legislators and two city offices in 2009. The general election will be Tuesday, November 3. Republican nominees for the three statewide offices were selected at the Virginia GOP Convention on May 30. More than 270 Alexandria Republicans signed up to be delegates to the State Convention by the local filing deadline of Jan. 23. (See more on the State Convention and local sign-up procedure.) About 160 Alexandria delegates attended the Convention in Richmond. We invite you to get involved with the '09 campaigns in Alexandria! Several things you can do:

Become a Convention delegate • Download the filing form (PDF format) • Print and sign • Or contact us for a copy • Submit by Fri., Jan. 23 Don't miss the deadline! See also: Convention FAQ's Republican nominees for statewide office will be chosen by the GOP State Convention, to be held May 30, 2009, in Richmond. Any registered voter in the City, who believes in the principles of the Republican Party, may sign up to be an Alexandria delegate to the Convention. We encourage all interested Republicans to participate. IMPORTANT: You must sign up in advance, in order to be a voting delegate at the Convention. The filing form is available for download (see box), or you may ask us to send one to you (see contact info). Be sure to sign the form, and submit it to ARCC promptly (see mail and delivery information). The filing deadline was Fri., Jan. 23. Forms MUST be postmarked by that date, or hand-delivered by 7 pm. Late forms WILL NOT be accepted. For details on the delegate selection process in Alexandria, see the official call and frequently asked questions. NOTES: There are many positions available (Alexandria may send up to 565 delegates). If a larger number sign up, the selections will be made at the city GOP canvass on Feb. 7. Also, the state party requests a filing fee of $35 for convention delegates, and ARCC requests a fee of $15, but those are voluntary. For Governor of Virginia

For Lt. Governor of VirginiaThis nomination was contested, with two Republicans seeking the position. The State Convention voted to nominate Bill Bolling.
For Attorney General of VirginiaThis nomination was contested, with three Republicans seeking to succeed Bob McDonnell. The State Convention voted to nominate Ken Cuccinelli.
We encourage interested Alexandria Republicans to get involved with their candidate of choice. And please be sure to sign up as a delegate for the State Convention, which will select the nominee.
