UPDATE: Dozens of Alexandria Republicans signed up during the 2010 filing period. Brenda Hankins filed for Chairman; 65 filed for the new City Committee; and 68 filed for delegate to the 8th District Convention in May. There are more positions available on the City Committee, and interested Republicans may still apply for election (see more information).
NOTE: Alexandria Republicans will separately help to select the GOP nominee for Congress in the 8th District. See Campaign 2010. Party offices: In early 2010, Alexandria Republicans will select a local party Chair and Committee members for the next two years. We'll also select delegates to the 8th Congressional District GOP convention in May, which elects the District Chairman. There are many positions available, and ARCC encourages all interested party members to participate.
Any registered voter in Alexandria, who is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, may file for any or all of the following positions:
Candidates for City Chair, City Committee member and/or for 8th District Convention delegates must file with ARCC no later than Thu., Feb. 25. This year, you may file online (pay by credit card); or you may print and mail the filing form (pay by check or credit card). If the number who file does not exceed the number of available positions, all candidates will be elected automatically. Otherwise, a party canvass will be held on Thu., Mar. 4. The new committee will become effective upon election (after filings have been received and reviewed, and any canvass is held). You may also use the ARCC filing form (online or mail-in version) to join one of our affiliate groups: the Alexandria Young Republicans or the Commonwealth Republican Women's Club. The filing period for chairman of the 8th District Republican Committee is still open. Any candidate for District Chairman must submit a letter of intent to the 8th District Committee, along with the applicable filing fee by Fri., Feb. 19.
The 8th District Republican Chairman will be elected at the District Convention on Saturday morning, May 22, at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria (see location details). The Convention will also hear from GOP candidates for Congress. Alexandria is authorized to send up to 320 delegates, about 20% of the total convention vote. Arlington, Falls Church and Fairfax County will also be represented. (See more information on the Convention.)
Questions about the filing form, canvass or convention? Please call or write, and we're happy to respond. ARCC wants to make sure that all Alexandria Republicans have every opportunity to participate fully in this year's party activities.
