To effectively support the Republican Party's principles and the candidates who reflect them, Alexandria Republicans need to become engaged in the community. The Party organization needs to keep up to date on what's happening in City government and what issues are important to our neighbors. Our members need to develop networks within the City and have the credibility to garner support for our candidates from other Alexandrians. There are three great ways to get engaged in Alexandria:
City boards & commissionsState law and City ordinances provide for a number of boards and commissions in Alexandria. Some, such as the Planning Commission, have substantial authority and responsibility. Others, such as the Sister Cities Committee, engage in cultural exchange and have little governmental authority. Still others, such as the Urban Design Advisory Committee, offer expertise and advice. Membership of the various boards & commissions vary. Almost all have at least a few at-large citizen members. Some have members who meet certain requirements to ensure geographic balance or interested party representation. The Office of Citizens Assistance posts vacancy notices for two weeks with application due dates two weeks before City Council meetings at which appointments are made. With 68 different boards, commissions, committees, and task forces, there's sure to be one of interest. Please contact us if you're interested in serving. More information: Check the City government's Boards and Commissions page, and the list of vacancies. Neighborhood civic associationsMore information coming soon..
