Reorganization 2004

This spring, Alexandria Republicans will elect local party officers for the next two years, and also participate in District-level and state-level conventions. There are many positions available, and we encourage all interested party members to participate.

City: Any registered voter in Alexandria, who is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, may file for any or all of the following positions:

• Member of the City Committee (2004-06);
• Chairman of the City Committee (2004-06);
• Delegate to the District Convention;
• Delegate to the State Convention

To file for any office, voters should complete and sign the appropriate Alexandria filing forms and submit them, along with any applicable filing fee, to ARCC (P.O. Box 245, Alexandria, VA 22313). Forms are available at ARCC meetings or may be downloaded. The completed forms must be received no later than 7 pm on Friday, March 19. Forms may be delivered by hand or sent by mail, but postmarks do not govern.

If there had been multiple candidates for City Chairman, or more candidates than available positions for any other office (see chart), then a party canvass election for the contested offices would have been held on March 27. However, no positions were contested, so the canvass was cancelled.

Congressional District: The Eighth District Republican Convention will be held Saturday morning, May 15, at Edison High School in Franconia, and will nominate a candidate for Congress. The convention will also elect a District chairman, 3 members of the Republican State Central Committee, 3 delegates and 3 alternates to the Republican National convention, and a Presidential elector. Alexandria is authorized to send up to 595 delegates to the District Convention. (See more information on the District Convention.)

Statewide: The Virginia Republican State Convention will be held June 4-5 in Richmond. That convention will elect a State chairman, 2 members of the Republican National Committee, 28 delegates and 28 alternates to the Republican National convention, and 2 Presidential electors. Alexandria is authorized to send up to 595 delegates to the State Convention.
