If you are unable to vote in person at your polling place on Election Day, you may vote by absentee ballot.
Absentee voting is available for all public elections: general elections (every November), city elections (in May), primary elections and special elections (when called). Absentee voting does not apply to party-run events, such as City Committee meetings, party canvasses, district conventions and state conventions.
Who is eligible In order to vote absentee, a voter must meet one of the allowable criteria. (Virginia does not allow unrestricted "early voting".) Reasons for voting absentee include:
illness or physical disability
absence from the City (for school, military duty, business, vacation)
